FAQs:
What is an umbrella school?
An umbrella school is a virtual school that enrolls students in a home learning program. The school maintains records for attendance, report cards, transcripts, and college/career readiness.
Fees associated with umbrella schools are to maintain records for students and provide guidance on home learning.
Parents and caregivers, tutors, and other service providers can educate the student while providing documentation to the umbrella school for records and evaluations.
How does an umbrella school differ from homeschooling?
Umbrella schools maintain all records and verify student progress, alleviating the need for parents to contact the superintendent to notify of homeschool status.
Immunizations, attendance records, and prior educational reports are required.
Parents choose the curriculum for their student.
Tuition is low to allow educational materials to be purchased with state scholarships.
How does an umbrella school differ from traditional in person public/private schools?
Umbrella schools do not receive state scholarships or funding. Funding is from payment for services and donations.
Students from all over the state can join, take field trips together, and build a learning network.
